Stakeholders aim to leverage smallholder commodity production to improve rural livelihoods. Southeast Asia national and local governments are vocal advocates of this approach for poverty reduction. Commodity producers, traders and consumer goods companies are increasingly realising the opportunity to increase the production base while at the same time contributing to increased farmer and community wellbeing.

However, to fully utilise this opportunity comprehensive strategies and action plans are needed to ensure the smallholders align with sustainability requirements (which provide tangible benefits to people) and ensure fair distribution of the benefits amongst the supply chain actors.

Daemeter is uniquely positioned to assist smallholders to become active partners in the journey towards sustainable production and improved local livelihoods.  We have an in-depth understanding of the field realities and draw upon this to design strategies that support smallholder commodity production and empower farmers. We also implement on the ground – from community forestry projects, to strengthened farmer cooperatives, to large scale efforts to map and support land titling in smallholder dominated landscapes.   We also conduct training workshops to raise capacity and understanding for both community and external stakeholders – key to ensuring equitable and effective engagement over the long term.
